A picture book series for ages 5–9

Some minds zigzag.
Some hearts launch like rockets.
All of them are built for big things.

Eight warm, strength-based picture books by Robin Ashlin, each helping a neurodivergent child feel seen — not fixed. ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety, dyscalculia, stammering and more, told through metaphors children love.

The Books

Every story follows a child with a wonderful mind through a hard moment, a loving reframe, real-world tools that help — and a triumph on their own terms. Each ends with an activity page and a plain-language note for grown-ups.

Leo and his Rocket Heart

Theo and his Wandering Numbers
Dyscalculia

Numbers wander off Theo's page — but his mind is a map-maker, building worlds nobody else can see. That's not broken; that's a different, brilliant job.

About the Series

Built for Big Things exists so that children with learning differences can open a book and find themselves in it — as the hero, not the problem.

"The best part came afterwards" — every hero passes their wisdom on to a younger child who struggles the same way.
  • Strengths first. Every difference is named plainly and reframed as a gift — a zigzag mind, a rocket heart, a river of words. No cure language, ever.
  • Real tools. Each story shows genuine, everyday supports — worry boxes, ear defenders, movement breaks, reading overlays, planned pauses.
  • For grown-ups too. Every book ends with a plain-language note explaining the condition and a gentle nudge toward teachers, SENCOs and GPs.
  • A shared world. The heroes appear in each other's stories — Mia comforts Theo, Oscar befriends Leo — because no child is the only one.

About Robin Ashlin

Robin Ashlin writes picture books for children whose minds work differently — and for the grown-ups who love them. Each story is written with care, checked against real-world supports, and shaped by one belief: children don't need fixing to be understood.

"I'm not a doctor or clinical specialist — I'm a writer who cares deeply about children feeling seen and understood."
